Scott Anderson

Scott Anderson, PhD, is a meditation researcher, meditation teacher and serves as an instructor in the University of Wisconsin – Madison’s department of Kinesiology. He has a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and his research interests focus on the physical correlates of meditation practice. Scott has also meditated for 40+ years, and his Ph.D. Minor is in Religious Studies, with a focus on the history of Buddhist Modernism. He is a founding member of the Tergar-Madison meditation community, and an active member of the Madison meditation community.

 

Chris Borland

Chris Borland is a teacher with Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute, a former NFL athlete with the San Francisco 49ers, and a Fellow at The Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin.

Chris was an All-American linebacker at Wisconsin and a top performer in the NFL. Since retiring from football, Chris has worked in brain injury advocacy, mental health, sports media, and documentary film production. Borland’s career stops include The Carter Center, The Center for Healthy Minds, The Players Tribune, and ByUs Media.

In 2017, Chris teamed up with Dr. Richie Davidson of The Center for Healthy Minds to lead a first of its kind mindfulness pilot program with retired NFL athletes. Since then, Chris has been teaching mindfulness and introducing Search Inside Yourself programs to current and former athletes, corporate clients, military veterans, professionals in the tech industry, educators, and nonprofits.

Borland has a passion for introducing content and practices that relieve stress, improve performance, and support team effectiveness. His focus is on high achievers in demanding professions, specializing in introducing programs to novel populations.

He lives in Madison, Wisconsin with his girlfriend, Bri, and their English Lab, Bruce.

 

Richard Goerling

Richard Goerling, a seasoned law enforcement leader, military veteran, mindfulness trainer and researcher, has become a trailblazer in the field of mindfulness, resiliency and human performance. With the establishment of Mindful Badge, a consultancy focused on mindfulness and resilience training, he is committed to resourcing others to optimize their health and performance, and humanity. Richard is also dedicated to evolving the public safety landscape, guided by science and the wisdom of community. With professional certification in mindfulness facilitation from the renowned Semel Institute at UCLA, his training expertise is backed by evidence-based research. Richard is also an affiliate professor and researcher at Pacific University’s Mindful Health & Resilience Lab, the birthplace of the research on mindfulness in policing. To add a special touch, he travels and trains with a registered therapy dog, Buddha, whose adorable presence brings joy and cheer to all who meet him.

 

Suzanna Hasnay

Suzanna Hasnay is a retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent with over 20 years of law enforcement experience and is currently President of Fredericksburg, Virginia-based PoliceSpirit, LLC, whose purpose is training in mindfulness-based strategies for human performance, leadership and well-being primarily for law enforcement and public safety professionals.

Upon her FBI retirement, she became the first mindfulness and yoga coach for its Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) and is a mindfulness trainer for HRT’s New Operator Training School (NOTS) and specialized FBI bomb technicians. She was co-founder of and lead instructor for PEAK, a human performance program for mission critical teams and the first of its kind in the FBI. Through PEAK, she trained numerous leadership and field SWAT teams in mindfulness-based practices for optimal health and performance. Additionally, she continues to work for Mindful Badge of Oregon through which she is a co-trainer for public safety personnel in immersive mindful agility training.

Suzanna holds a B.A. in Dance from the University of Akron, Ohio, a M.A. in Business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and post graduate work in exercise science from Cleveland State University. She is former Adjunct Faculty in leadership and officer resilience for the University of Virginia at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and for Notre Dame College of Ohio in exercise science and kinesiology.

In 2013, she was a member of mountaineer Ed Viesturs’ Mount Rainier climbing team and, in 2022, she completed the trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp in Nepal. An eRYT-500 advanced level yoga instructor, Suzanna is also a trained Mindfulness Coach for Law Enforcement and Public Safety through UC-San Diego School of Medicine and Mindful Badge.
